Hair straightening products

If your hair is not very curly and you’re not striving to achieve perfectly straight hair, you can use special hair products, that can help you tame your hair and make it thicker, healthier and glossier. It’s a great way to straighten your hair without causing too much damage. Even though the result will be temporary, these products will not harm your hair, and they are easy to use at home. You can buy these products either at drug stores or specialized stores. For a better result, you can use a product set.

1. Special shampoos, balms and conditioners – Choose the ones "for intensive moisture" or "for disobedient hair". They nourish and soften hair and contain various vitamins. Unfortunately, the hair will not become perfectly straight; however, it will be more tameable, less frizzy during damp weather and will be less likely to dry out whilst drying.

Special shampoos may contain chemical materials that give hair "weight"; due to this, hair is less likely to curl and go back to its natural state. For example, these chemical materials can include lauryl sulphate, sodium lauryl sulphate, sodium hydroxide, panthenol, silicon and glycerine that weight the hair down.

Furthermore, the shampoo may contain various oils (such as olive or avocado oil), amino acids, keratin, silk proteins, vitamin B5, extracts from medicinal herbs and wheat protein. Pay attention to the amount of silk protein in the shampoo; it helps to straighten the hair.

The effect can be enhanced by other hair products, such as hairspray, hair mousse and hair gel.

2. Special straightening ointments – they nourish hair and make it "heavier", thus keeping it straight. The downside is that hair becomes greasy faster. The ointment should be applied with a special brush on clean, dry hair and kept on for around 30 – 45 minutes. After that, the hair should be rinsed with warm water and shampoo. It is best to stick to the directions.

3. Serums for hair straightening – This must be applied on clean, dry hair by equally dividing it over the entire length. After the hair dries (either naturally or by a hairdryer on a cold air setting), you have to brush it out and apply the serum for a second time. The serum can be used as an auxiliary method for hair straightening by a hair iron. What is more, it protects hair from the damage caused by high temperatures. The serum should be chosen according to your hair type and be applied in small amounts so that the hair doesn’t look greasy or messy.
